High pressing and early tactical dominance
Head coach Pedro López made key adjustments to his starting eleven, inserting Maricarmen Reyes into the attack to generate immediate offensive pressure. The tactical strategy paid off within five minutes as high pressing forced Jamaican defender Chantelle Swaby into an own goal. Mexico maintained control throughout the first half, doubling their lead at the half hour mark when Reyes smartly redirected a long cross delivered by Kim Rodríguez into the net.
Individual brilliance from Jacqueline Ovalle
Mexico dominance was further cemented in the second half through a moment of magic from star forward Jacqueline Ovalle. Known as La Maga, Ovalle curled a phenomenal free kick directly into the top corner of the net, leaving the Jamaican goalkeeper with no chance. Although Jamaica introduced several regular starters late in the match and managed a consolation goal through Kalyssa Van Zanten, the Mexican squad comfortably managed the closing minutes to seal the victory.
