Can you pray to God and still read your horoscope?

Can you pray to God and still read your horoscope?

For many people, faith no longer fits neatly inside one box. They may believe in God, pray regularly and still check their birth chart, pull a tarot card or speak to their ancestors. The question is not always whether they have abandoned religion. Sometimes, it is whether they ever felt fully represented by organized religion in the first place.

Others see a much clearer line. If their relationship with God already gives them direction, why search for answers somewhere else? To them, tarot, astrology and spiritual rituals are not harmless extras. They are doors that do not need to be opened.

When faith becomes personal

That divide drives a candid conversation on Say It Black!, where Julian Laro, Jovy E., Shaylen Nelson and Ifeoma Bosah compare the beliefs they inherited with the ones they chose for themselves. Some separate God from religious institutions. Others remain open to astrology as a tool for self-reflection, even if they are not ready to blame every bad week on “Pluto in Gatorade.”

The discussion becomes deeper when the cast considers how colonialism pushed many Black communities away from Indigenous and ancestral practices by labeling them dangerous or illegitimate. Reconnecting with that history does not necessarily mean rejecting Christianity. For some, it means asking what was lost before Western religion became the only acceptable way to believe.

Of course, everyone appears to have a spiritual limit. Tarot may be negotiable, but Ouija boards, mysterious Latin chants and inviting unknown spirits into the house are another story. Watch the full episode of Say It Black! on LatiNation’s YouTube channel, then answer the question for yourself: can faith and other spiritual practices coexist?
