Gomez’s participation in “Dancing with the Stars” has been making headlines since the show’s premiere, as she is the youngest competitor this season. But that hasn’t held her back at all. In week one, Xochitl and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, put on a solid performance with their cha cha, earning a score of 18 out of 30.
On Latin Night, they danced a salsa that earned them 24 points, tying them for the top spot on the judge’s scoreboard along with singer Jason Mraz. They showcased their skills to the music of Camila Cabello‘s “Don’t Go Yet.” Xochitl joked that since she has Latino roots, people would expect she was “born knowing how to salsa,” but clarified that that wasn’t the case. However, Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told her that “salsa is your superpower” and compared her to EGOT singer, actress, and dancer Rita Moreno.
In an interview with Just Jared, Gomez shared how her martial arts training has helped her on “Dancing with the Stars.” Gomez has also been open about her fear of heights, but she has been pushing herself to overcome it and give her best performance on the show.

Gomez’s mother enrolled her in a musical theater class when she was five, and she went on to appear in 22 full-length musicals. She started studying martial arts around the age of 12 and is on her way to becoming a black belt. She is also dyslexic, so she carefully studies her dialogue to guard against mistakes during auditions and filming.
Gomez made her professional acting debut in 2018 in Raven’s Home. She went on to star in Shadow Wolves (2019), for which she won a Young Artist Award, and later in Netflix’s critically acclaimed The Baby-Sitters Club (2020). She gained most of her early acting experience doing local LA short films, many of which led to Best Young Actress awards.
She was selected as a feature actress at the Sundance Institute’s Director’s Lab in 2018. But her big break came after she portrayed Marvel superhero America Chavez in the 2022 film ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’
