There’s a new Latina in Hollywood town who’s breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings as the first Queer Latina superhero. Her name is Xochitl Gómez.
Within days of the premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Latinx actor won over Marvel fans with her talent and charisma on screen.
Born in Los Angeles, California, in 2006, of Mexican parents, her name has a meaning in the Nahuatl language (Latin American pre-Hispanic culture), which in Spanish can be translated as “Flower.”
The young artist began her professional career in musicals since she was five years old, in addition to being part of some commercials and series such as Raven’s Home, You are the worst and Shadow Wolves.
In 2020 she was part of the cast of Gentefied (Netflix) series.
You may Know her through her character “America’s” emergence in the second installment of Doctor Strange, but she’s also been casted as Marvel’s first Mexican-American teen to portray a hero.

“I grew up rarely seeing girls on-screen that looked like me or shared my culture. In the past, Latinas were often portrayed with negative stereotypes… It’s great to see more diversity on-screen than what I had growing up,” she told Teen Vogue.
