Premios Juventud 2023: A Night of Unforgettable Performances and Big Wins

Last night, the 2023 Premios Juventud took place, celebrating the best in Latin music and culture. The event, which was held at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico, marked the 20th anniversary of the Univision award show.

Shakira: The Big Winner of The Night

Out of the 44 categories of the night, Shakira was nominated in nine of them. She ended up being the the big winner of the night, taking home eight awards, including Best Pop/Urban Song for her track “Shakira – BZRP Music Sessions #53,” together with Bizarrap.

The song also won the Best Song For My Ex award. Moreover, “TQG,” her song with Karol G, took home the trophies for Best Urban Track, Best Pop/Urban Collaboration, Social Dance Challenge and Girl Power. Finally, thanks to “Monotonía,” in collaboration with Ozuna, she won the awards for Artista Juventud Femenina and Tropical Mix Awards.

“Thank you very much… My greatest luck is to have the fans that I have. Every day you inspire me to improve myself and not give up. The truth is that when I had doubts about myself, you made me believe in myself again. When I felt fragile they filled me with strength, they accompanied me, they protected me, they showed me their loyalty,” she said, in her emotional speech.

Shakira also received the  (Agente de Cambio) “Change Agent” award from Puerto Rican Kany García. The artist was recognized for the social work she has dedicated since 1997 to children in her country who require food aid and other needs. Through her “Fundación Pies Descalzos” she has been able to help displaced children and their families in Colombia, creating equal opportunities for them to attend school and have a good education.

“We live in an ambiguous world, surrounded by good music, beauty, Tik Tok dances, filtered selfies, but there are realities that cannot be filtered or made up. There are places where people who are born poor die poor because they do not have the opportunity to receive a quality education, places where it is hard to believe, people are discriminated against because of their sexual preferences, because of the color of their skin, because of their social class. It is an imperfect world that is constantly changing and that is something that cannot be wasted,” she said, after receiving the award.

The Cuban Camila Cabello and the young Emmanuel Estuardo Yoque, who is a native of South Central Los Angeles, were also honored with the “Change Agent” award for their commitments and the work they do in a social way.
