Shakira Slams Piqué: every song in which she sang about her exes

“Women no longer cry, women cash in,” is one of the lines in the new Shakira track in collaboration with Argentine producer Bizarrap. According to social media, it destroyed her ex Gerard Piqué, from whom she recently separated.
After her first two songs “Te Felicito” and “Monotnía” following her recent break up, the Colombian singer was also criticized for making money off of her relationship troubles, and that is maybe why we hear, “Women no longer cry, women cash in” in the song. But, can you blame her?
Shakira and the Spanish soccer player ended their 11 year relationship in June. After months of media speculation, they finally reached an agreement over their two kids, Sasha and Milan, who will live with the singer in the United States. However, it looks like the break up wasn’t as easy as it seemed. With the new single “BZRP Music Session #53,” the singer let it all out and aimed at Piqué and her new 22-year old girlfriend, Clara Chia.
Shakira Pique’s song Lyrics
“Sorry baby I should have thrown you out a while ago / A she-wolf like me is not for rookies / A she-wolf like me is not for guys like you / I’m too good for you and that’s why you’re with someone just like you,” Shakira sings. And continues: “I’m worth two of 22 [year old] / You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo / You traded a Rolex for a Casio / Lots of time at the gym, but your brain needs a little work too.”
But, in Spanish, she also uses innuendos and plays with the words to include “Piqué” [Sal-Pique] and “Clara” [Clara-Mente] in the lyrics.
“I’m not getting back with you, don’t cry for me, nor beg me / I understood that it’s not my fault that they criticize you /I only make music, sorry that it bothers you,” she chants, also saying in the lyrics, “You left me the in-laws as my neighbors, media outlets at my door and in debt with the government/ You thought you hurt me, but you made me stronger/ Women don’t cry anymore, they cash in.”
This last lyric made social media users go wild, criticizing Shakira monetizing her breakup. However, her collaboration with Biza isn’t her first song that speaks about Piqué or her love life.
Just after her breakup became public, the singer released “Te felicito (I congratulate you),” with Rauw Alejandro. “For completing you I broke myself into pieces / They warned me, but I didn’t pay attention / I realized that your love is false / It was the straw that broke the camel’s back / Don’t tell me you’re sorry / Seems sincere, but I know you well and I know you lie /I congratulate you, you act so well”, she sang, making it clear that the separation was more than just because of their work schedule.
But she didn’t just stop there. Before pulling the last straw with “BZRP Music Session #53,” she collaborated with Ozuna in “Monotonía (Monotony),” a single that also talks about Piqué and references him in the music video with various items of clothing that they used in other singles when they were together. “It wasn’t your fault nor mine, it was the monotony’s fault / Suddenly you were no longer the same / You left me because of your narcissism / You forgot what we were one day,” she sings.
However, during their 11-year old relationship, Shakira also had some nice things to say about her now ex. In 2017, she released the single “Me enamoré (I fell in love),” in which she tells the story about how she met Piqué, who is 10 years younger than her.
“The night I met you / Had little to lose / I thought, “he is still a child” / But what am I going to do? / I fell in love / I saw him alone and I took the risk / Look what a beautiful thing / What a round little mouth / I like that little beard”, she sang. And continued: “With you I would have 10 children / Let’s start with a couple/ I’m only telling you / In case you want to practice / I never thought it would be like this / How would you look at me? / I thought about it all through the night / This one is for me, it’s for nobody else.”
Shakira’s past relationships
Shakira was madly in love with Piqué and she showed it in her lyrics. But he wasn’t her only ex that got a song written about him. Óscar Ulloa was her first boyfriend, who he dated for about four years when they were in their teens. Their breakup received many songs in the “Pies Descalzos” album, such as “¿Dónde estás corazón? (Where are you heart?).” But the single that still hits is “Antología (Anthology),” which was released in 2016.
Even after they went separate ways. Shakira wrote the sweetest words for Ulloa. “I learned to take the seconds out of time / You made me see the sky was way deeper / With you I think I gained more than three kilos / Because of the many sweet kisses you spread out / You detached my shoes from the concrete /So we could both escape, flying for a bit.”
In 1998, her scandalous relationship of just one year with Puerto Rican actor Osvaldo Ríos came to an end. He was 17 years his senior, when she was just 19. After the broke up, he said that they were even planning to get married, and she released “Tú (You),” in which she sang: “It’s you, love / My desire to laugh / The goodbye I won’t know how to say / Because I can never live / Without you.”
Shakira also dated Antonio De La Rúa, the son of former Argentine president Fernando De La Rúa, for a decade, ending their relationship in 2011. Even though she probably wrote lots of songs during their time together, her love for him was undeniable and it showed in two of her most famous singles.
In 2001, she released “Whenever, Wherever,” a global hit in which she publicly declared her love to the Argentine lawyer. “Lucky you were born in the South / Lucky that I’ve met you / And loving foreign lands because of you / I can climb the Andes only / To count your freckles / With you I celebrate and suffer through anything / My joys and my sorrows / With you, my life / I want to live life / And what’s left of my life / I want to live with you,”
She then spent two years writing “Día de enero (January day),” a love letter dedicated to De La Rúa. “I’ve found several scratches that others have left on you, but my crazy love is your best doctor. I’m going to heal your soul in mourning, I’m going to leave you like new and everything will pass, soon you will see the sun shine.”
