Mexican-American singer, songwriter, and actress, Jenni Rivera was a widely recognized as one of the most prominent artists in the regional Mexican music genre. She was born in Long Beach, California, on July 2nd, 1969, and was raised in a musical family. Her father, Pedro Rivera, was a successful music producer and her siblings also pursued music careers.

Growing up, Jenni faced numerous challenges and hardships. She was physically and emotionally abused by her first husband, and she struggled with poverty and discrimination as a Mexican-American. Despite these obstacles, she was determined to succeed and began performing in local clubs and events in Los Angeles.

In 1992, Jenni recorded her debut album, “Chacalosa,” which was a commercial success in the regional Mexican music market. Over the next two decades, she released over a dozen studio albums, becoming one of the most popular and successful female artists in the genre. Some of her most famous hits include “La Gran Senora,” “De Contrabando,” and “Basta Ya.”

Jenni Rivera’s new biopic

In light of Jenni’s incredible life story and impact on the music industry, a new biopic is set to be released, starring Annie González as the late superstar. The series will focus on Jenni’s rise to fame, her personal struggles, and her lasting impact on the regional Mexican music industry. 


The biopic, appropriately named “Jenni,” will be exclusively released on the streaming platform ViX and is set to hit only select theaters in the U.S. and Mexico later this year. Directed by Gigi Saúl Guerrero and written by Shane McKenzie, “Jenni” is produced by Mucho Mas Media and De Line Pictures and was shot on location in Bogotá and Los Angeles. It also features Jenni Rivera Enterprises as the executive producer.

Mexican-American actress Annie González, who has gained recognition for her roles in Flamin’ Hot and Gentefied, said that playing Jenni Rivera is a “huge honor” and a responsibility that she takes seriously. González praised Rivera’s resilience, compassion, and authenticity, saying that she was not just a singer but a “trailblazer” who paved the way for other women and artists.

The cast of “Jenni” includes other talented actors and actresses who will portray key figures in Jenni Rivera’s life, such as her father Pedro Rivera, her daughter Chiquis Rivera, her ex-husbands Trino Marín and Juan “Cinco” López, and her mother Rosa Saavedra. The film will also showcase Jenni Rivera’s musical career and personal struggles, including her rise to fame, her family dynamics, her battles with addiction and depression, and her commitment to social causes.

“My brothers and I are very excited about this biopic. We know that our mother’s story will impact generations to come. It has been a difficult task, but we are happy to see one of our mother’s dreams come true,” said Jacqie Rivera, daughter of Jenni Rivera and CEO of Jenni Rivera Enterprises, through information provided by ViX in advance of Los Angeles Times in Spanish.

ViX expressed its enthusiasm for the biopic and its dedication to telling the story of La Diva de la Banda (band diva) who captivated audiences with her talent and her charisma. Meanwhile, Jacqie Rivera stated she believes that it would have a positive impact on future generations.
