The Latinas Who Took the Spotlight at the Met Gala

The Latinas Who Took the Spotlight at the Met Gala

If there is a fashion event that we all look for, that is the Met Gala. This year, the theme was “American Independence” which gave attendees a wide berth of ideas to play with, and Latinos, especially Latinas, stole the spotlight with their dresses. Let’s take a look at them:

Anitta: The Brazilian star wore an outfit created by Peter Dundas, the new creative director of the Roberto Cavalli brand.

Jennifer Lopez: If someone can rock a cowboy hat at a gala, that is JLo. The Newyorican icon, showed up in a western themed luxurious brown Ralph Lauren dress, her traditional plunging neckline, and a dark gray hat (hand in hand with Ben Affleck).

Eiza Gonzalez: The Mexican actress appeared with a red dress inspired by Hollywood 50’s era while Camila Cabello wore a purple Michael Kors dress with sequins inspired by the seventies.

But the Latina who definitely made an impact (an a statement) was AOC who showed up with a white Brother Vellies gown, which read in thick red letters “TAX THE RICH.” And sure she was surrounded by them all night as Met Gala tickets can rage from $35,000 to $200,000.

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez

The Latinx politician made a statement, but also caught lots of criticism. At the end of it all, the Met Gala is a dreamy event with one or two fashion hit-or-miss… and we’re glad it’s back!
