Unsealed court records and Department of Justice disclosures have highlighted the legal structure surrounding Jeffrey Epstein‘s financial estate, identifying Belarusian national Karyna Shuliak as the primary beneficiary of his remaining assets. Shuliak, a 37 year old Columbia University dental school graduate, was the final individual to receive a phone call from Epstein prior to his death in federal custody in August 2019. Just two days before his death, Epstein executed a legal instrument designated as “Trust 1953” to govern the allocation of his multi million dollar portfolio.

Background, academic credentials and profile of Karyna Shuliak
Born in Belarus, Karyna Shuliak relocated to the United States during her youth to pursue higher education, ultimately earning her degree from the prestigious Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York. Shuliak first met Epstein around 2012 at the age of 21, during a period when the financier was re establishing his professional circle following his first conviction in Florida. Over their nearly eight year connection, Shuliak maintained a low public profile, avoiding media visibility and remaining distant from Epstein’s high profile social gatherings. Unlike several other women associated with the late financier, Federal law enforcement agencies never identified her as a participant in Epstein’s criminal operation, nor did she file claims as a victim.

Trust 1953 provisions and asset allocation terms
Under the terms specified within Trust 1953, Shuliak was designated to receive up to 100 million dollars, structured alongside a 50 million dollar annuity and a 33 carat diamond ring valued at over 1.5 million dollars. The trust documentation additionally granted rights related to Epstein’s international real estate holdings, which included primary residences in Manhattan, Palm Beach, Paris, New Mexico and his private Caribbean islands. Shuliak, who maintained an eight year relationship with Epstein after meeting him in 2012, was neither named as a victim nor charged as an accomplice in connection with his criminal activities.
Personal relationship background and secondary trust beneficiaries
Throughout their relationship, Shuliak managed operations across several of Epstein’s residential properties and oversaw domestic staff. Official records indicate that Trust 1953 designated approximately 40 secondary beneficiaries, consisting primarily of professional associates and close acquaintances. Notable allocations within the original trust text included 10 million dollars for Ghislaine Maxwell, 10 million dollars for Epstein’s brother, Mark Epstein and 5 million dollars allocated to Harvard University mathematics professor Martin Nowak.

Victim restitution funds and ongoing estate litigation
Although Epstein’s total wealth was initially estimated at nearly 600 million dollars, the overarching estate experienced substantial reductions due to federal tax liabilities, legal fees, and court ordered victim restitution programs. Following extensive claims brought by over 200 survivors who were omitted from the original trust documents, an independent compensation fund disbursed over 170 million dollars in restitution. Legal proceedings regarding the remaining trust assets remain active in court, leaving the final monetary amount Shuliak may ultimately receive subject to ongoing judicial review.
