The ‘Encanto’ Cast Shares Their Superstitions

It’s almost time! Fans have been asking, when is Encanto coming out? Well, the Disney Encanto premiere date was November 4th, at the El Capitan Theatre and it releases in theaters on November 24th.
We got to hang out with the Encanto cast to talk about the new movie, their roles, and of course the meaning behind Encanto. A week prior to the release of the anticipated Disney movie, Encanto, we got to talk to Stephanie Beatriz, Diane Guerrero and Lin-Manuel Miranda about the charming movie and also about something that is kind of recurrent in the movie and in Latino culture all around: superstitions.
Lin-Manuel said he doesn’t think of himself as a superstitious person, until it’s time to do a toast and he didn’t lock eyes with the person he is toasting. Then he would immediately ask to do it again, because you know, “brindar sin mirar a los ojos son 7 años de” …I’m not going to say it, but trust me, you don’t want to have that.
For Diane, she said it was a matter of not leaving things on the bed or the floor. Purse on the floor means you’re losing money, and on the bed not sure what it means, but now I know I won’t be leaving it there either.
As for Stephanie Beatriz, she had quite a few; from not lighting a candle next to someone’s picture, unless they have already passed away, to no shoes on the table (someone will die) and the most interesting one was about not whistling which got her in a lot of trouble because apparently she loved whistling when she was a little girl.
And of course we dissected the meaning behind Encanto…
What does Encanto mean?
For our friends who are not familiar with Spanish who might be wanting to know the Encanto meaning, it’s something very synonymous with Disney. The word Encanto means enchantment. According to the Disney Encanto trailer, the movie revolves around the enchanted powers of the Colombian family featured in the movie. Take for example the character Luisa, played by Jessica Darrow who has the magical powers of super strength. In the trailer, we see that something happens where the whole family’s legacy of magic or ‘enchantment’ is at risk as well as their family home. For this reason, we can’t wait for the release of Encanto to see how they survive the whole ordeal!
