A Sneak Peek at What’s Coming to Netflix in April

With April around the corner, Netflix announced its long-awaited list of new arrivals, with movies, series, new seasons, and documentaries dropping on the platform. LATV has put together a compilation of some of these productions to add to next month’s must-watch list.

Weathering (April 1)

The Netflix Original movie follows a journalist who, after losing her baby and nearly her life during labor, begins to have disturbing visions and chilling attacks as she grieves alone at home.

War Sailor (April 2)

This Norwegian drama series is set at the start of WWII and follows a merchant ship and its fight to survive. Alfred, a sailor, is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when the war breaks out and suddenly the entire crew find themselves on the front lines without any weapons.

The Signing (April 4)

In this new musical competition reality show, talented children from all corners of Latin America will have to impress urban music superstars such as Yandel, Rauw Alejandro, Tainy, Nicki Nicole, and Lex Borrero. The winner gets to sign a contract with NEON16, a company that presents itself as a talent “incubator” with a strong focus on Latin America.

Chupa (April 7)

The Cuarón family continues to build their legacy in the film world, although this time it is not about Alfonso, but about his son, Jonás Cuarón, who directs the Netflix Original movie Chupa, inspired by the Mexican legend of the chupacabra.

During a visit with his family in Mexico, Alex befriends a creature he finds hiding in his grandfather’s shed: a baby chupacabra. Now, in order to save this mythical being, Alex and his cousins ​​will embark on the most incredible adventure of their lives.

Transatlantic (April 7)

Marseille, 1940. Gillian Jacobs and Cory Michael Smith star in this biopic series about a journalist who organizes the safe passage out of France and onto the US for thousands of artists, writers, and refugees in danger of losing their lives during the war.

Director Anna Winger, creator of ‘Unorthodox’ and ‘Deutschland 83,’ has stated that she was inspired by the classic film ‘Casablanca,’ but wanted to differentiate it from other war series by adding comedy.

Florida Man (April 13)

Édgar Ramírez will portray Mike Valentine in this new series created by Donald Todd and produced by Ozark’s Jason Bateman.

The Venezuelan actor will portray a disgraced, debt-ridden ex-cop dragged into another case. He must return to his native Florida for a shady mission that turns into a deadly manhunt. What should be a quick gig becomes a spiraling journey into buried family secrets and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing.

Queens on the Run (April 14)

This Mexican action movie directed by Jorge Macaya stars Martha Higareda, Valeria Vera, Claudia Pineda, Paola Núñez, and Alejandra Ambrosi.

When four women finally go on the road trip they planned when they were teens, they have no idea what they’ll encounter…sometimes literally.

Martha Higareda returns to Netflix after her successful series ‘Altered Carbon,’ with this film that she not only stars in but also wrote and produced.

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (April 14)

After receiving news that Netflix would not renew the show after its fifth season, ‘The Last Kingdom’ will return with ‘Seven Kings Must Die,’ a spin-off in the form of a film that takes us back to the series’ incredible universe.

Following the death of King Edward, Uhtred of Bebbanburg and his comrades venture across a fractured kingdom in the hope of uniting England at last.

The Diplomat (April 20)

Keri Russell headlines this new series about a career diplomat who lands a high-profile job she’s unsuited for, with seismic implications for her marriage and political future.

Russell takes on the role of Kate Wyler, the rookie ambassador who finds herself in over her head despite being a career diplomat with more than enough experience to qualify her for the job. Originally scheduled to head to a crisis zone in Afghanistan, she finds herself thrown into the political bottom of London.

Welcome to Eden (Season 2) (April 21)

The Spanish series, starring Amaia Aberasturi, Amaia Salamanca, Belinda, and Albert Baró, among others, returns to Netflix.

In this second season, mystery and danger on the island grow and the Eden Foundation welcomes new characters and plots. We will see the rebellion ignite an intense battle for freedom while Astrid carries out her plans for the New Eden.

Love After Music (April 26)

Fito Páez is one of the biggest stars of Spanish-language music and Netflix will tell his story.

The biographical series will cover 30 years in the history and universe, life and career, of the renowned Argentine musician, singer-songwriter, composer, and film director, traversed by pain, loss, tragedy, success, failure, excess, love, and many songs.

Firefly Lane (April 27)

While the feel-good drama series, starring Katherine Heigl, Sarah Chalke, and Ben Lawson, has been renewed for a second season, it was then announced that season 2 would, in fact, be the last season consisting of a “supersized” 16 episodes. The first 9 of those episodes dropped on Netflix globally on December 2nd, 2022.

The second batch of episodes was initially announced to be released on June 8th, 2023, but it was moved up to April. These final episodes concluded with a cliffhanger, when Kate noticed a large rash on her chest while getting ready for bed and ultimately got diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

A Season 2, Part 2 teaser can be found at the end of episode 9, which gives a sneak peek ten years into the future, at Johnny’s wedding. However, the real question is, is it Kate’s second wedding, or will it be with Tully?

Sweet Tooth (Season 2) (April 27)

Over two years after the release of the first season, this series based on the DC comic from creator Jim Mickle and produced by Robert Downey Jr. returns to Netflix.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world where Gus is not the only hybrid being (half human/half animal), the second season follows him and a band of fellow hybrids who are being held prisoner by General Abbot and the Last Men.
