Xolos de Tijuana turn down two European offers for Gilberto Mora

At just 16 years old, Gilberto Mora has become one of the hottest names in Mexican football. His performances with Mexico’s U-20 national team at the World Cup have drawn international attention, three goals, two assists, and an undeniable command of midfield play have made him the heart of El Tri’s run to the quarterfinals.
Clubs from Spain, England, Portugal, the Netherlands, and France have already put him on their radar, with Real Madrid, Ajax, Liverpool, and PSG among those reportedly tracking his progress.
Two offers rejected by Xolos
According to journalist Fernando Esquivel, Xolos de Tijuana have already rejected two European bids for their young star. Both proposals arrived through Mora’s representatives, one from Portugal for €6 million, and another from England for €8 million, each for 100% of his transfer rights.
However, as Esquivel reported on X (formerly Twitter), Tijuana and the player’s agent have set a firm stance: Gilberto Mora won’t leave for less than €20 million. The club considers him a long-term project and a cornerstone for its future.
“Both offers came through an agent, €6M from Portugal, €8M from England, both for 100% of the rights,” Esquivel explained. “Xolos and Mora’s camp agreed he won’t be sold for less than €20M. Multiple clubs remain interested.”
The youngest star of the U-20 World Cup
Despite being the youngest player at the tournament, Mora has shown maturity well beyond his age. His composure, vision, and ability to control the tempo have made him one of the breakout names of the competition.
In the 4-1 win over Chile, he provided a key assist in the opening goal and dominated midfield transitions. With Mexico now among the top eight teams and set to face the winner of Argentina vs. Nigeria, Mora continues to elevate his reputation match after match.
A new face of Mexican football
Mora’s rise isn’t just about talent, it’s about timing. At a moment when Mexican football is searching for its next generation of leaders, his mix of technical intelligence and emotional calm makes him a rare profile.
Xolos know what they have, and Europe knows what they want. The only question now is who will meet the price, and how long Mexico’s new wonderkid will stay home.
