Two Latin American countries have been predicted to win this year’s World Cup

The Qatar 2022 World Cup has begun and soccer fans all around the world are rooting and cheering for their favorite team to win. Meanwhile, different predictions are being made about which teams will face each other in the final match and, of course, predictions that ensure which country will win, according to people’s favorites.
But now, along with the well-known individuals who have always dedicated themselves to making their own speculations, a modern tool linked to artificial intelligence has popped up, one that is being used to make predictions about which country will win the World Cup this 2022.
First, let’s do a quick recap: the World Cup in Qatar started on Sunday, November 20th and will run until Sunday, December 18th. During this time, 64 matches will take place among the participating teams, all of which dream of bringing home the much-coveted cup and the honor of being called the next world champions.
Argentina: BCA Research data
We’ve already said that artificial intelligence and big data can help predict the future. According to data from BCA Research, which collects data on each team, each player and even FIFA 23, a study called “The most important of all unimportant forecast second edition 2022, FIFA World Cup” claims that there is an undisputed winner.
Their prediction is that the cup will stay in Latin America; more specifically, that it will be Argentina who will win the World Cup in Qatar 2022 against Portugal, in the final match. In fact, it even goes on to state that the match will be won through penalties, with the South American team coming out as victors.
England: Lloyd’s of London
Another prediction, regarding which team will win the most sought-after trophy on the planet this 2022, was made by Lloyd’s of London, the world’s leading market in corporate risk solutions. They based their research on the insurable value of each player.
In their report, they have determined that the total insurable value of tournament players is around $26 billion, an increase of $10.6 billion since Russia 2018. Their work, supported by the Center for Economic and Business Research, uses salaries, sponsorship, age and position on the field to calculate the value of the players.
Based on this method, Lloyd’s correctly picked the winners in 2014 and 2018. This year, it is backing England to win the World Cup. Lloyd’s valued England at $3.74 billion, making them the most valuable team for Qatar 2022. France came second with $3.14 billion and Brazil with $3.02 billion.
He rates England’s Jude Bellingham as the most insurable player, followed by France’s Kylian Mbappe. Lloyd’s predicts that England will top their group before beating Senegal, France and Spain in the round of 16. England will then win against Brazil in the World Cup final.
Brazil: OPTA sports data
On the other hand, the main producer of sports data, OPTA, has also used artificial intelligence to predict the winner of the World Cup. Through their work, they’ve created odds for each team, which change during every match that takes place throughout the tournament, since each goal scored will change the possible route other teams could take to reach the final.
OPTA states that the team with the most chances to win the World Cup is Brazil, with a chance of 16.3%. Neymar, Vinicius Junior and their teammates have an 88.5% chance of reaching the round of 16 and a 25.7% chance of reaching the final.
Argentina has the second best chance with 13.1%, followed by France with 12%, Spain with 8.9% and England with 8.8%. OPTA predicts that England will top Group B, with the United States likely to finish second, beating Wales. The US has a 0.7% chance to win at all.
Former Cameroon and Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has predicted an African final with Cameroon lifting the trophy. However, before the tournament had started, OPTA had only given Cameroon a 19.8% chance of reaching the knockout stages and a 0.2% chance of winning the tournament. That’s slightly lower than host Qatar, who have been given a 0.3% chance of winning the World Cup.
