Argentina Fútbol Team’s Journey to Qatar Documented in New Prime Video Series

With the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, Prime Video is set to premiere its new docu-series, Selección Argentina, La Serie, which will follow Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, and the rest of La Albiceleste on their way to Qatar 2022. 

The series begins with Argentina’s victory in Copa America 2021, which was the country’s first major championship since 1993, and will document their preparations leading up to the games in Qatar, where they will attempt to win their third world championship, and first since 1986.

Unsurprisingly, Messi will be a focal point of the series. While his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats is undisputed, he is still chasing that elusive world championship. The Copa America victory last year was his first senior squad international trophy, and if his performance during that tournament is any indication of what we can expect this winter, he might just get it.

In addition to beating arch-rival Brazil in the final, Messi was the top goal scorer in the tournament, and also had five assists. For his efforts, he was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament’s most outstanding player. 

Head Coach Lionel Scaloni will also play a major role. His arrival in 2018 was initially met with skepticism, but the Copa America victory turned the tide, and now his players are all in.

“He is very detailed and, because of how he prepares matches and tactical work, everything ends up happening,” midfielder Rodrigo De Paul told goal.com last month. “If it’s 10 in the morning and he says ‘good night,’ then it’s night for us.

Under Scaloni, La Albiceleste has not lost since a semi-final defeat to Brazil in the 2019 Copa America (a span of 33 matches), and they have won 31 of 47 overall.

Selección Argentina, La Serie, premieres July 22, and will be available to stream exclusively though Prime Video, which is included with your Amazon Prime subscription.
