Ángela Aguilar Álvarez Alcalá, or simply Ángela Aguilar, is no stranger to the music industry. The Mexican-American singer, born on October 8th, 2003, in Los Angeles, California, is part of the famous “La Dinastía Aguilar” (The Aguilar Dynasty), which includes her father, the renowned Pepe Aguilar, her paternal grandparents, singer-actors Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre, and her brother, Leonardo Aguilar. Ángela, who has dual Mexican and U.S. citizenship, grew up surrounded by music and often accompanied her father on tours across Latin America alongside her brother.
In an exclusive interview with LATV’s “Get To Know,” Ángela Aguilar shared some personal insights that give fans a closer look at the artist behind the music. From her love for traditional Mexican breakfast, featuring huevos en salsa and handmade tortillas, to her unexpected hobbies like gardening, cooking, and reading, Ángela proves she’s more than just a musical sensation. “I love to cook so I make a mean birria and I make it very good. I’m very expressive of my culture,” she revealed. Ángela reflected on the emotional power of bolero music and, when asked to describe her voice in one word, she humbly chose “learning.”

Who is Ángela Aguilar?
At just 3 years old, Ángela was already singing with her family on stage while they were on tour. In 2012, at the age of 9, she released the album “Nueva Tradición” in collaboration with her brother. When she turned 13, she became the youngest performer at the BBC 100 Women festival in Mexico City, highlighting her determination to challenge the male-dominated music industry.
However, it was the release of her solo album, “Primero Soy Mexicana,” in 2018, that undeniably put her talent in the limelight, interpreting 11 well-known ranchera songs previously performed by legends like Lucha Villa, Rocio Durcal, and her grandmother, Flor Silvestre. The album received critical acclaim and earned her a nomination for Best New Artist at the Latin Grammy Awards, where her performance of “La Llorona” received a standing ovation from the audience and established her as a star at just 15 years old! “Primero Soy Mexicana” crossed over to the English-language music industy, becoming nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Regional Mexican Music Album.
The accolades kept rolling in. She was named Artistic and Cultural Ambassador of Zacatecas, Mexico, in 2019, while continuing to receive nominations in numerous award shows. In 2020 she released a tribute album to Selena titled “Baila Esta Cumbia” and, later, a third studio album, “Mexicana Enamorada,” featuring the single “En Realidad,” in 2021.

In addition to making music, touring, and spending with family and friends, Ángela uses her influential platforms to speak out about voting rights and voter registration. With 11.3 million followers on TikTok and 10.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, she has become one of the most popular artists of her generation.
In 2024, the 20-year-old artist decided to venture into new music genres with “Bolero,” an album of nine songs in which she covers classics such as “Somos novios,” “Contigo en la distancia,” and “Solamente una vez.” Released under the independent label Machin Records, the album was produced by her father and recorded in Cuba. A 40-minute documentary, also titled “Bolero,” showed the making of the album and was screened in a select number of movie theaters in Mexico as well as on the artist’s YouTube channel.
