The Dad Quest Brings Mexican Family Dynamics to Netflix

The Dad Quest Brings Mexican Family Dynamics to Netflix

Netflix just dropped a new Mexican film called “The Dad Quest” (“Lo mejor del mundo”), and trust us,  this one’s a must-watch. Directed by Salvador Espinosa and written by Tato Alexander, this road trip-meets-family-drama movie has all the ingredients of a weekend binge: laughs, tears, a messy but beautiful parent-child relationship, and a quest that might just change everything.

So what’s the deal? It all kicks off with Gallo, a successful but somewhat self-centered TV producer. He’s been raising Benito, a sweet and curious kid, with his longtime partner, Alicia. But everything flips when Alicia suddenly passes away and not only does Gallo have to cope with that loss, he also discovers that Benito might not be his biological son.

But instead of stepping back, Gallo does the complete opposite. He and Benito embark on a road trip across Mexico to uncover the truth, one stop at a time. It’s a movie about what it means to be a dad, and spoiler: it’s not just about biology. The road trip pushes Gallo to step up as a parent, maybe for the first time ever, and for Benito, it turns into a journey of grief, identity, and connection.

They’re joined by Diana, Benito’s learning psychologist, who helps guide them through the emotional and logistical challenges of the search for his biological father and the three of them meet people from Alicia’s past, run into unexpected bumps in the road, and start to create a new kind of family. It’s funny, emotional, and surprisingly deep, especially for a film that kicks off with a soap-opera-level twist.

This one’s already streaming on Netflix, and it’s got all the cozy, chaotic, heartwarming vibes you’d expect from a movie that focuses on Mexican family dynamics, long drives, awkward conversations, and genuine love.

Meet the Cast of The Dad Quest

Michel Brown plays Gallo, the TV producer who suddenly has to become a full-time dad. You’ve probably caught him before: he’s an Argentine actor who got his start in series like Jugate Conmigo and Chiquititas, but really made a name for himself across Latin America with Pasión de Gavilanes, playing Franco Reyes. Since then, he’s been in everything from La querida del Centauro to Hernán, and more recently, he starred in the Netflix hit Pálpito alongside his wife, Mexican actress Margarita Muñoz. In The Dad Quest, Brown brings all that experience to a character who’s both clueless and doing his best, and he wins your heart for it.

Martino Leonardi plays Benito, and this is his big breakthrough. He’s the heart of the movie, a kid grappling with immense grief and even bigger questions about his identity. Benito convinces Gallo to help him find his ‘real dad,’ but on their journey, it becomes clear that the man who’s always been there might be the one that truly counts. You bet we’ll be seeing a lot more of him in the future.

Mayra Hermosillo also has a big role in the movie, playing Diana, Benito’s learning psychologist. You’ll recognize her as Enedina Arellano Félix from Narcos: México, and she’s also been in Las viudas de los jueves, ¡Qué viva México!, and Perdidos en la noche. Besides acting, Hermosillo’s a filmmaker too. She directed and starred in Vainilla, and her short film En la piel de Lucía was featured at festivals in Austin and Vancouver.

The rest of the cast is packed with familiar faces and big talent: Fernanda Castillo, Eduardo Santamarina, Ricardo Fastlicht, Angélica Vale, Arath de la Torre, Julieta Egurrola, Alexis de Anda, Ricardo O’Farrill, Morena González, Daniel Abrego, Angelica Rogel, and Ezequiel Cárdenas. Together, they help turn The Dad Quest into more than just a road trip, it becomes a full-on journey through generations, family drama, old memories, and fresh starts.

So if you’re in the mood for something funny, emotional, and super real, something that’ll have you texting your folks after, The Dad Quest is up on Netflix. You might want to have some tissues handy.
