The cast of Heart Eyes tell us their worst date experiences

Love is in the air, and so is blood in the new film Heart Eyes, the latest slasher flick is creating a stirr among horror fans. Directed by Josh Ruben, the film has earned an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes, praised for its blend of nostalgic slasher horror and Gen Z humor.

Starring Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding, Jordana Brewster, Devon Sawa, and Gigi Zumbado, Heart Eyes brings a fresh and thrilling take on Valentine’s Day horror, reminiscent of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Since Heart Eyes is Valentine’s Day-themed, we couldn’t resist asking the cast about their worst date experiences.

Mason Gooding recalled being stood up. “I sat alone for 30 minutes before the waiter came up and asked if anyone else would be joining me. That was a fun ego check,” he joked.

Gigi Zumbado’s story was straight out of a thriller. “I went on a date where the person just sat in the car and didn’t go anywhere. Then they locked the doors. I was like, ‘This is how horror movies start.’”

Jordana Brewster had a uniquely awkward experience. “I went to see Hotel Rwanda on a date. We both cried through the whole movie, and after, we didn’t say a word to each other. He just dropped me off. It was painfully awkward.”

Devon Sawa’s worst date? It involved not just him and his date but their publicists. “Years ago, my publicist and her publicist were both there watching us. It was… weird.” When asked who the mystery woman was, he only hinted that she was a famous early-2000s star. Gigi and Jordana playfully threw out names like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Brittany Murphy, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, but Sawa stayed tight-lipped.

As for Olivia Holt? She confidently said she’s never had a bad date. Mason Gooding immediately reacted, “not surprising.” But Holt jokingly added, “Or maybe I’m someone’s bad date.” Mason, ever the charmer, responded, “Impossible.”

With its fun cast, nostalgic slasher vibes, and witty dialogue, Heart Eyes is a must-watch for horror fans. It’s a love letter to the genre, delivering heart-pounding moments alongside a fresh, modern twist.
