The Amazing Latinas Behind ‘El Agente Topo’

The Oscars are around the corner and the Chilean movie El Agente Topo/The Mole Agent made it to the 93rd edition of the Academy Awards as a nominee for Best Documentary.
The film follows 83-year-old Sergio, who is sent as an undercover spy to a retirement home to investigate suspected neglect. This endearing movie, which is considered a documentary since the protagonists are real people, not actors, and it documents a reality this group of elders are living, is the fourth feature by Chilean director, Maite Alberdi.
The Mole Agent had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020 and has had a successful international run. It had its U.S. broadcast premiere last January as part of the 33rd season of the prestigious POV series on PBS, and was also nominated for Best Documentary at the Film Independent Spirit Awards.
The movie, which is a co-production between Spain, Chile and the Netherlands, is produced by a power house group of women on both sides of the Atlantic.
