Teófimo López has Completely Taken Over Boxing

Teófimo “The Takeover” López might need a nickname now that he’s accomplished one of the most impressive feats in the sport of boxing. However, in the Canelo vs. Saunders Fight we saw Canelo win with a TKO after the Saunders corner threw in the flag.  But right now it’s The Takeover’s world.

Raised in Brooklyn by Honduran parents, the 23 year old has been slamming his opponents like poetry in motion all the way to a 15-0 professional record. Despite his already impressive track record so early in his career, he still had to prove to the world that he was worth the hype. And he did so on the biggest stage in boxing, against the sport’s biggest name.

For those who don’t know, Vasyl Lomachenko has been widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world for years. With nicknames like “The Matrix” and “Hi-Tech,” the Ukrainian fighter is renowned for his complete control of seemingly every fight he’s ever fought. Lomachenko is a human swiss-army knife with a ridiculous 396-1 record before he decided to fight professionally. López came into the fight at around a +300 underdog, which is some of the best odds an opponent of his has been given in recent memory.

Early in the fight, the kid’s athleticism and preparedness shone through, forcing Vasyl to approach cautiously. Loma wouldn’t sit back for long as he found his offense in the later rounds, but López still managed to hold his own. Though many fans saw the fight being closer than the final scorecards indicated, there was no doubt that López left it all out in the ring and proved more than worthy to become the youngest four belt title holder ever.

How does one celebrate upsetting one of the biggest names in the sport, and make history in the process? By doing a signature victory backflip.
