One of the most expensive Shohei Ohtani item in history sells for $10 million
  • A collector pulled a unique one of one autographed card featuring Gold Logoman patches from the Japanese superstar.

  • Luxury investor Matthew Allen acquired the collectible item for over 10 million dollars following competitive bounty offers.

  • The discovery coincided with the National Sports Collectors Convention, establishing a major milestone in sports memorabilia.

The sports memorabilia market established a major benchmark following the discovery of a unique one of one autographed card featuring Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani. The item was retrieved through a redemption card inside a Topps Chrome Baseball box at Boca Sports Cards in Boca Raton, Florida. The piece features two Gold Logoman game worn jersey patches from Ohtani consecutive National League MVP seasons in 2024 and 2025, along with two distinct autographs signed in English and Japanese kanji.

Competitive bidding and high value acquisition

Shortly after the store verified the redemption pull, luxury collectibles investor Matthew Allen, known online as “Shyne150,” confirmed the direct purchase of the item for an amount exceeding 10 million dollars. The final price surpassed earlier public bounty offers, including a 10 million dollar reward announced by Hong Kong firm Grade 10 and a 6.5 million dollar offer from Secure Collectibles, an investment entity co founded by entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary. Allen finalized the acquisition privately, positioning the card among the most valuable sports items ever transacted.

Historical context within sports memorabilia sales

The sale places the Ohtani card near the highest historical valuations across the trading card industry. The record for the most expensive trading card remains held by the 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Dual Logoman featuring Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, which sold for 12.9 million dollars, followed by the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card at 12.6 million dollars. Across all sports memorabilia, the top position belongs to Babe Ruth 1932 World Cup jersey, which reached 24.12 million dollars in August 2024. Previously, an autographed 2025 Ohtani Gold Logoman card sold for 3 million dollars at auction.

Industry impact during the National Convention

The timing of the pull generated substantial interest throughout the hobby, coinciding directly with the National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois, shortly after the official release of the 2026 Topps Chrome Baseball set. The event highlights ongoing interest in high end sports cards, as additional one of one Gold Logoman items, including consecutive American League MVP patches for Aaron Judge and Cy Young patches for Tarik Skubal, remain active within unopened product inventory.
