  • The Cannes Film Festival celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Fast & Furious saga with an emotional midnight screening of the original 2001 film.

The bond of “family” that defines the Fast & Furious franchise transcended the screen this Wednesday, May 13, during a special celebration at the Cannes Film Festival. As part of the 25th anniversary of the release of the first installment, Vin Diesel made an emotional presentation of Meadow Walker to the audience during the midnight screening. Diesel, visibly moved, emphasized that he could not come alone to represent the brotherhood of the saga without the presence of the daughter of his dear friend, Paul Walker, who passed away in 2013.

A tribute to Paul Walker’s legacy

During the event, Diesel introduced 27 year old Meadow as the living representation of the ties created during the filming of the franchise. The young woman, who already appeared in Fast X and runs the Paul Walker Foundation, was greeted with a warm round of applause while Diesel admitted to being on the verge of tears due to the emotional weight of the moment. Following the screening of the original film, Meadow delivered a short speech with her godfather’s support, who assured her that her father would be “very proud” of her before they shared an embrace that moved the attendees.

Looking toward the grand finale

Vin Diesel also took the stage to address the fans, thanking them for the loyalty that has allowed the story to extend until its definitive conclusion. The actor confirmed that production for the final installment, titled Fast Forever, is being made as a tribute to the public’s affection and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 17, 2028. According to Diesel, the 2001 film was just the beginning of something he defines with a single word: love, a feeling that has remained intact between the cast and the saga’s followers.

Twenty five years of brotherhood

The Cannes red carpet was not just a parade of stars but a reminder of the cultural impact of a film series that began a quarter century ago. Paul Walker co-starred in the first seven installments before his tragic accident and his memory remains the primary engine of current celebrations. With the presence of key figures such as Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, the Fast & Furious “family” reaffirmed in France that despite time and loss, Paul Walker’s legacy continues more vibrantly than ever through his daughter and his castmates.
