Mexican Actor Cast in ‘One Piece’ Live-Action on Netflix

Mexican actor Iñaki Godoy will star in the live-action Netflix adaptation of the hit anime series One Piece as Monkey D. Luffy. Through it’s Twitter, the Netflix’s One Piece cast was revealed to the public and topping that list of young actors to play the beloved anime pirates is a rising Latino actor who many Netflix fans know of from the hit show Who Killed Sarah? Where he played the character Bruno. This means Netflix, home of Latino favorite series such as the new Gentefies Season 2 will have one more Latino starring in a major role.
In One-Piece, Godoy will paly Luffy the stretchy pirate who is unable to swim and leads a crew of straw-hat pirates on a glorious journey.
Netflix has a somewhat shaky relationship with manga and anime fans especially since the creators of Avatar walked off the live-action project for that franchise, but on his Instagram One Piece Luffy actor Iñaki Godoy assured fans of the anime that he was doing his due diligence in researching for the upcoming role sharing a post of himself on Instagram surrounded by One Piece merch, manga and paraphernalia.
“I’ve been doing my research on one piece and I know how much this means to all of you. I wanna let you know I will do my best and I appreciate all the kindness you’ve showed me. THANK YOU FOR THE TRUST.” – @inakigo
Netflix One Piece Cast
The creator of One-Piece Eiichiro Oda shared the following through a statement his excitement in seeing the main cast of pirates come together
“For now, we’re able to announce the main cast! Rather, we need to hurry and announce it or else it’ll be leaked, apparently! Hilarious, lol. Their face, the size of their mouths and hands, their aura, the way they carry themselves, their voice, their acting skills, their height, the balance amongst the Straw Hat Crew, etc…! We decided on this cast after numerous discussions involving people around the world! These are the people who will be our Straw Hat Pirates!”
The One Piece Netflix cast also includes Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
We can’t wait to hear more from this project including when the Netflix One Piece release date is and when we can actually see the Netflix One Piece trailer.
