LATV Gets Up Close and Personal with the Cast of ‘Gentefied’

Netflix’s Latinx hit show, Gentefied, is back for Season 2 with the original all-star cast of Joaquín Cosío, JJ Soria, Karrie Martin Lachney, and Carlos Santos. Gentefied follows the life of three Mexican-American cousins as they fight against gentrification in their predominantly Latino barrio called Boyle Heights and risk it all to keep their grandpa’s taco shop, Mama Fina, open! LATV got to attend the Season 2 red carpet and celebrate with the cast and crew. Check out these exclusive pictures from the event!

America Ferrera 

America Ferrera is a Golden Glove Award and Emmy Award-winning actress, producer, and director of Honduran descent. For seasons 1 and 2, America takes on the role of Executive Producer and Director, although she does make an appearance as Andy Cruz in Season 2.

JJ Soria 

JJ Soria plays Erik Morales, one of the three main cousins who are fighting to keep their grandpa’s (Joaquín Cosío) taco shop alive! During Season 1 his character  Erik, sets to become his grandpa’s right-hand man and juggles with co-parenting as a new father. Joseph Julian “JJ” Soria was born in Los Angeles, CA and his parents are of Mexican descent.

Karrie Martin Lachney 

Karrie Martin plays Ana Morales, one of the Morales cousins and is the main female lead of the series. During Season 1, her character, Ana, is an artist/activist who raises awareness about the homophobic perceptions found in the Latinx culture. Karrie was born and raised in the sweet South, New Orleans, Louisiana to Honduran parents. ¡Que viva Honduras!

Carlos Santos 

Carlos Santos, known as Chris Morales on Gentefied, is part of the main trifecta! During Season 1, his character, Chris, struggles with pursuing his dream of becoming a high-end chef pero a la misma vez siendo parte del problema titulado “gentrification”. Fun fact, Carlos Santos is a Puertoriqueño born and raised in the island!

Annie Gonzalez

Annie Gonzalez, or Lidia Solis in the series, plays opposite of JJ Soria’s character as his love interest. During season one her character, Lidia, showcases the battles of being an independent and educated Latina fighting for her dream while also becoming a new mom. Annie brings personal experiences to the show as she was born and raised in East LA to Mexican parents! 

Julissa Calderon

Julissa Calderon, or Yessika Castillo in the series, plays opposite of Karrie Martin as her love interest. Her character, Yessika, was integral to Season one as she provoked conversations related to anti-blackness and homophobia in the Latinx community. Julissa was born and raised in Florida to Dominican parents and is a proud Afro-Latinx Dominicanita <3

Marvin Lemus

Marvin Lemus along with Linda Yvette Chávez  are Co-Creators of Gentefied! Marvin Lemus is a  Mexican/Guatemalan-American Writer, Director, and Producer born in Bakersfield, CA! We see you Central California!

At the end of Season 1, Pops (Joaquín Cosío) is detained by ICE and the cousins ( JJ Soria, Karrie Martin, and Carlos Santos) have to come together to fight the possibility of losing their grandfather and his taco shop, Mama Fina.
