Lowriders are Back in Los Angeles!

Lowriders are Back in Los Angeles!

A sign that the pandemic is coming to an end? Lowriders started lining up on Stadium Way last Saturday!

By noon on Sunday, the palm tree-lined section of Stadium Way down the street from the entrance of Dodgers Stadium was packed with hundreds of classic cars, motorcycles, trucks, and bikes, along with the vehicles prideful owners and their families. This is the biggest lowrider gathering since the pandemic started, and a sign that pre-Covid life is slowly coming back.

Lowrider car culture began in Los Angeles in the mid-to-late 1940’s. Initially, some Mexican-American youth lowered blocks, cut spring coils, z’ed the frames and dropped spindles. The aim of the lowriders is to cruise as slowly as possible, “Low and Slow” being their motto. By redesigning these cars in ways that go against their intended purposes and in painting their cars so that they reflect and hold meanings from Mexican-American culture, lowriders are more than cars – they are a cultural statement.

At first, lowriders were only seen in some places in Los Angeles, especially on Whittier Boulevard when lowriding hit its peak; however, the lowrider culture quickly expanded and made it all the way to Japan!

If you want to know when the next lowrider meet up is, make sure you follow Pachuco Car Club, L.A.Tacos or SoCal Raza Events!
