The Latinos Named to the All MLB teams for 2023

Major League Baseball honored its best in early December with an “All-MLB” roster. These rosters feature the players who played at the highest level for each position for the 2023 season. The two rosters are broken into two teams: the “First Team” and the “Second Team.” Both teams featured Latino players. Let’s take a look at which Latinos were recognized.

First Team

Ronald Acuña Jr.: The 2023 National League Most Valuable Player just earned himself another award. Acuña has been named All-MLB for the third time in his career; this is his first time being named a First-Team selection. The 26-year-old from Venezuela had himself a year for the record books. He hit 41 home runs and stole 73 bases, achieving the first 40-70 season in MLB history. Other notable stats Acuña had were a batting average of .337, 217 hits, 149 runs scored, 1.012 OPS, and 106 RBIs. This outfielder from the Atlanta Braves is a superstar who is ready to reach new heights in the game of baseball.

Félix Bautista: Relief pitcher Félix Bautista from the Baltimore Orioles has had an unorthodox career. He was a 26-year-old rookie in 2022, which is an old age to have a debut in the MLB. Fast forward one season, Bautista is an All-Star, AL Reliever of the Year, and now First-Team All-MLB. The Dominican right-hander gave batters problems when he was on the mound. He pitched 61 innings, had a 1.48 ERA, 110 strikeouts, and 33 saves. He played a key role in Baltimore winning the AL East Division championship. Unfortunately, his season was cut short, and he underwent Tommy John Surgery. Fans hope to see Bautista return to the field healthy and dominate.

Second Team

Francisco Lindor: In his ninth season out of Puerto Rico, shortstop Francisco Lindor has been consistently outstanding in his career. 2023 was another example of that for the 30-year-old. The New York Met hit 31 home runs, stole 31 bases, and scored 108 runs. At the plate, he notched a .254 batting average, 153 hits, and 98 RBIs. Lindor has been one of the premier players in a premier position. 2023 was another great season for the potential Hall of Famer.

José Ramírez: Ramírez has been holding down the third base position for the Cleveland Guardians for a decade now. In his time in the league, he has garnered All-Star selections, Silver Slugger awards, and All-MLB nods. 2023 welcomed Ramírez’s second All-MLB selection. The Dominican had a .282 batting average, 24 home runs, 172 hits, and 80 RBIs. His name was also on the AL MVP voting list where he placed sixth.

Adolis García: One of the coolest stories in the MLB just got more interesting. García went from playing in Japan for one season to the St. Louis Cardinals for another one-year stint to finding a home with the Texas Rangers. Breaking out at the age of 30 is something no one expected from the outfielder from Cuba. After having a great regular season with 39 home runs, 108 RBIs, and 108 runs scored, García went on to have a magical postseason as he was crowned ALCS MVP, and his team won the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Yordan Alvarez: The 6’5 lefty batter continues to be one of the best-designated hitters in the MLB for the Houston Astros. He has racked up four All-MLB selections in the past five seasons. Since coming to the league out of Cuba, Alvarez has been a nightmare matchup for pitchers. In 2023, he hit a .293 batting average, 31 home runs, and 97 RBIs.

Emmanuel Clase: It’s been an up-and-down career for Clase. These past two seasons are up and have the Cleveland Guardians reliever career pointed in the right direction. After signing an international contract out of the Dominican Republic with the San Diego Padres, Clase was traded multiple times before landing in Cleveland. He had an amazing 2021 season and was rewarded a five-year contract by the Guardians in 2022. His 2023 campaign was solid. His ERA was 3.22, and he led the majors with 44 saves and made 65 appearances.
