La Charla: Why is it so hard to make new friends?

Our new show La Charla is now available on the LATV+ App. Here we’re going to give you a sneak peak of what the first chapter of our new series will be. Hosts Amara La Negra, Rocsi Diaz and Marycarmen Lopez Schulman will talk about friendship.

The conversation between them is as interesting as it is controversial, and will surely have you debating it at home or with your group of friends. The three artists in our series begin with a question that triggers an interesting talk, and then each one contributes her point of view on the matter.

The question is: Why is it so difficult to form bonds of friendship? Among the hypotheses they throw on the table are: bad energy, jealousy and a lack of support and empathy. It’s Rosci who begins by telling her co-hosts that she has had the same circle of friends for a very long time, with some even going back to elementary school. But they are, ultimately, the same 10 people.

There, the topic moves along to another complex issue, which is making “new friends.” Between the three, they have a charla that brings up different questions. Rosci, with her blunt, unapologetic style, mentions fake friendships or those that are just for convenience. Will Amara and Marycarmen agree with this? We’ll see.

Another very interesting issue that arises is whether the conversation of not being able to make new friends is linked to relationships between women. Are they more complex than men? Are men more empathic with each other? Is it easier to make friends with gay men? Our three protagonists end up reaching some controversial conclusions.
