Will Johnny Depp Make a Hollywood Comeback After Defamation Case? | Opinion

After a long two days of deliberations, the jury made a unanimous decision that Amber Heard defamed Johnny Depp, giving him not just a victory in this trial and $15 million (well, $8.35 million after subtracting the limit for punitive damages in Virginia as well as the $2 million Amber won in the countersuit) but he also got his life back. So the question remains: will Depp make a Hollywood comeback? Only time will tell…
The jury also found that Amber Heard was defamed by Depp’s representative and got awarded $2 Million. As an avid fan of this case who has been watching pretty much the entire trial, I’m happy to say that I think the jury got it right. Amber Heard, based on the evidence presented, didn’t strike me as a victim of domestic abuse at all. I found her very opportunistic, which certainly helped advance her career at the expense of her then ex-husband who was struggling with addiction.
It appears Amber Heard loves playing the victim, which is something I’ve observed from watching the case. But she was the one who leaked compromising videos and pics of Depp to TMZ, as well as the one who appeared in court with a black eye six days after Depp had left the country and — strangely — no one (including a police officer) noticed that black eye until the morning she went to court where the injury looked fresh – much fresher than six days old.
It’s true that she is being replaced in the Aquaman sequel, but even though one of the Warner executives testified that they considered replacing her for the lack of chemistry with Momoa, she just had to blame Depp. It seems that she always finds someone to blame without ever accepting full responsibility when it comes to her own actions.
This marks a new beginning in terms of how the public perceives domestic violence, because this case has shown that men can also suffer from something that is normally seen as a female-only issue. In a recording, we hear Heard admitting she was not punching Depp, but hitting him —as if that makes it better? Just imagine if it had been the other way around, Depp saying “I’m not punching you, I’m just hitting you.” You see what I’m getting at?
So yes, #IStandwithJohnnyDepp, and I hope to see him back on the big screen soon.
