“My kind of hope and quest for the Latino community is that they start understanding their power.” – Jennifer Lopez

Biden’s Inauguration is turning out to be a star studded event! On Wednesday, January 20th, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States. This historical event will take place on the West Front of the US Capitol – the same place where just last week we saw absolute madness go down. It’s strange to think about the change in extremes from last week to next week. From hysterics and insanity to hope and cheer.

Jennifer Lopez, who is considered to be one of the nation’s most influential Latin artists, is set to perform at the ceremony. Lopez and her husband Alex Rodriguez have been very vocal about the pandemic in the Latin communities, rebuilding the economy and bringing the country together. In a statement made by the Presidential Inaugural Committee, both Lopez and Rodriguez showed their support for the Biden/Harris campaign early on to encourage the Latinx vote. So it’s only right that she show her support and perform at the inauguration! In a virtual meeting with Biden, Lopez said: “For me, it’s unifying the nation again, you know, getting rid of this hate. Thinking about my kids walking around in a world where it’s OK to be racist or prejudiced because our administration says it’s OK — that, to me, is really sad because it’s not the country that I believe that I grew up in.”

J Lo and Gaga

Along with J Lo, Lady Gaga will be singing the national anthem and Tom Hanks will be hosting a 90 minute prime-time show right after the ceremony. “Celebrating America” will include performances by Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake, Ant Clemons, Jon Bon Jovi and more to be announced! The show will take place January 20th at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT

“We are thrilled to announce an inspired group of dynamic participants for the 59th Inaugural Ceremonies. They represent one clear picture of the grand diversity of our great nation and will help honor and celebrate the time-honored traditions of the presidential inauguration.” – Tony Allen, CEO of the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

J Lo made history last year when she performed at the Super Bowl Halftime show with Shakira, being the first Latina duo to ever headline at the game. If we know one thing, we know that she will put on a good show! It’s amazing to see someone represent us at such a huge event and to know that we are entering this next phase with a strong Latina voice.

Make sure you tune in on Wednesday to celebrate the Biden/Harris transition and enjoy a great show!
