Jennifer Lopez Celebrates ‘Selena’ Film’s 24th Anniversary

Over 20,000 women auditioned, and they picked Jennifer Lopez.
Yesterday marked the 24th anniversary of the iconic film, Selena, starring the one and only J-Lo. As we all know, Selena Quintanilla’s legacy is absolutely iconic, and her life was taken far too early. Just two years after her 1995 murder, Jennifer Lopez starred as Selena on the big screen in a celebration of her impactful life and musical prowess. “How many times do you see a Latina walking down the red carpet and she’s actually starring in the movie in the title role? Not often,” Jennifer said at the time, adding, “It’s a celebration of her life, and uplifting and inspiring, just like she was.”
Yesterday, J-Lo posted a series of throwback videos from the timeless movie and gushed about how much the role meant to her. After all, Jennifer’s part in this movie put her on the map and helped skyrocket her career. “I can’t believe it’s been 24 years since the release of Selena. I’m so proud of this movie!!! So proud to be a small part of Selena’s amazing legacy. When I was preparing for the role, I studied her tirelessly, her every step, her finger movements, her lips … her infectious laugh…her expressions,” Jennifer wrote.
Selena received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017 and a Lifetime Achievement Honors at the Grammys earlier this month.
