Jenna Ortega to Play Wednesday Addams

We’re so happy our girl Jenna Ortega gets to play the lead in Tim Burton’s live-action Addams Family series for Netflix focused on the iconic character of Wednesday Addams. I mean…how perfect is she for this?
The actress, who has most recently been on ‘Yes Day,’ started her career on Jane the Virgin and is now on her way to becoming a superstar.
The coming-of-age comedy, written by Smallville creators and to be directed by the legendary Tim Burton, is a supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. That’s where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating being a teenager (not an easy task).
The YA series, Wednesday Addams’ first solo vehicle, marks Burton’s first live-action show as well as his TV directing debut.
Ortega is taking over the role from Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in both feature films, The Addams Family in 1991 and sequel Addams Family Values in 1993.
