Space Hygiene 101: How To Wash Your Hair and More

Just a few years ago, the title of this article wouldn’t have made any sense, unless you were an astronaut planning a trip to space. However, these days you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to fly out of this world – you just need to be filthy rich.

Several companies are now selling spaceflights to the 1%. How much does it cost? Well, that depends on who you book with, and how eager you are to get there. The starting point is $100,000, if you are okay with waiting a decade; however, if you want VIP treatment aka a flight 6 months from now, prepare to pay about 55 million dollars.

In the next 6 months, there are two crews of tourists set to launch, SpaceX’s Crew and Dragon spaceship.  Yet, the question still remains, are they prepared to train the passengers about the discomforts of microgravity and other factors above the earth?

If you are lucky enough to make it to space, make sure you are stacked with some Dramamine, because the turbulence is no joke. Aside from that, here are some fun facts space travelers should keep in mind:

-Astronauts swallow their toothpaste, because spitting it out would leave liquid floating around – and that my friends, would be gross…

-They sleep in compartments about the size of a telephone booth and inside a sleeping bag secured to the wall so they don’t float around (probably not a good trip for a honeymoon).

-Astronauts can’t do laundry.

-They can’t shower, so they have to sponge-bathe. So, how do they wash their hair? Astronaut Karen Nyberg shows us in this fun tutorial that you should watch even if you never get to go.
