How Jessica Darrow Feels About Her Character Luisa on ‘Encanto’

Miami native actress Jessica Darrow filled the stage of Get It Girl with lots of energy to tell us all about being the voice of Luisa on Disney’s Encanto.

A day after its world premiere, Encanto, one of the very few Latino films Disney has produced, is making headlines and putting more Latino actors on Hollywood’s radar.

But, what makes this character so special for Jessica Darrow and how does she relate to Luisa?

“I relate to her in so many ways, she’s the above emotional superhero, as I like to call her,” the Cuban-American actress revealed on Get it Girl. “She’s got super strength in a lot of ways: physically but also emotionally.”

Just like her character, on the outside, Jessica may seem tough and has an energy that lights up the room. On the inside, however, being part of a dreamy production like Encanto had her crying tears of joy. Don’t believe us? We have proof!

“She’s always taking in things and letting her own inner light come out. I relate with that so much. I love my family and friends and I gotta remember to step back sometimes and take some time for myself as well,” Darrow adds.

Fun Fact: As the only non-Colombian actor in the cast, she says she had to learn how to pronounce her Rs. “I feel like Colombian Rs are a lot fancier than Cuban Rs. I had to learn how to say Brrrrrrruno.”
