Graphic Novel About the Nature of Addiction Stars Danny Trejo

A new graphic novel from writer/creator Daniel Medina stars a character based on Danny Trejo and Mr. Criminal.

JD and Chucho, two best friends from Los Angeles, grow up in the middle of a multi-generational plague of addiction and violence. JD wants to use his pedigree to run the streets like his father did in the 80s and provide for his grandparents Pop and Cuca. Chucho wants to escape the claws of his dope-fiend mother, make some fast money and impress JD but when Chucho’s demons appear on the street corner; rules are broken and JD must pay – and he must pay with bloodshed.

Chucho and JD will be hounded by a heroin-addicted LAPD lieutenant, hunted by a relentless drug lord and haunted by ancient demonic spirits while trying to survive on the savage streets of Los Angeles.

Medina explains: “During the last few years of my addiction, I had completely lost any sense of my true self. it was as if I was a host for an unknown parasite dragging me through the brutal cycle of relapse, remorse and unending vows of “never again” only to be lulled back to the bottle and the bag with just a whisper in my head. I  entered a realm where I was beyond human aid, the choice around drugs and alcohol felt like it had been taken from me by demonic forces.”

“The idea of battling spiritual forces of darkness that speak directly into the mind seems unreal to the unaffected…until you experience their power.  What if that driving force, that whisper, that voice that leads so many of us back into the bondage of alcohol and drug addiction is demonic and parasitic in nature?”Check out the conversation we had with Daniel during his recent appearance on The Zoo…
