In the heart of León, Guanajuato, a great promise in the world of boxing was born. Giovanni Cabrera emerged from humble beginnings to become a star in professional boxing, ranking 8th of the world by the International Boxing Federation in the Lightweight category.
Born on July 19, 1994, in Seattle, Giovanni spent his formative years in León, Guanajuato, under the influence of his Mexican-origin father and American-Italian mother. From the age of one to nine, he lived with his grandparents in León before relocating to Chicago. This journey shaped the fighter both culturally and personally, creating a blend of influences that fuel his passion for the sport.

Giovanni’s boxing journey began in 2015 when he returned to Mexico to participate in the National Olympics qualifier held in Querétaro. The dedication and determination he displayed earned him a spot in the Senior Youth category, 64 kilos, where he obtained the bronze medal after defeating participants from CDMX and Querétaro. At the age of 29, Giovanni Cabrera competes in the lightweight division, boasting an impressive 18-0 record in his seven-year undefeated career.
The turning point in Giovanni’s career came when he seized an opportunity to spar with none other than Manny Pacquiao, under the watchful eye of legendary trainer Freddie Roach.
Describing the surreal experience, Giovanni shared to El Correo Newspaper: “That day I left my apartment in Chicago and drove three days to Los Angeles, California. When I arrived at the gym, Freddie told us: ‘You can’t come in, Pacquiao just arrived.'” However, fortune favored him, as Roach offered Giovanni a chance to spar with Pac-Man.

The American-Mexican fighter gave his all in the ring, enduring the rounds and impressing Manny Pacquiao. This encounter led to Giovanni being hired as a sparring partner for Pacquiao’s farewell fight in 2021, a significant milestone in his career.
