Ginny and Georgia, season 2: Meet the cast

Ginny and Georgia, season 2: Meet the cast

After almost two years, the second season of Ginny & Georgia is finally on Netflix, and fans no longer have to wait to find out what was going to happen between mother and daughter. The tension is undoubtedly palpable right from the start and a change in the teen’s attitude is also noticeable. Did you know that, even though in the series, both characters have an age difference of 15 years, in real life the gap is much smaller? Let’s learn some more about the cast!

Antonia Gentry

The American actress who plays 15-year-old Ginny is actually 25. She was born September 25th, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia. Just like the character she portrays, she’s biracial, but it’s her father who is white and her mother black. She had wanted to be an actor since she was 5 years old and attended Emory University to study drama. While she was studying, she had a few minor roles in short films and a tv series. During the same week she graduated from college, she auditioned for “Ginny & Georgia.”

Antonia confessed on The Jennifer Hudson Show that she almost didn’t go to the audition, as she was studying for her finals, but in the end, she changed her mind and went (and managed to pass the exam, too!) She also mentioned that she is often mistaken for a teenager, which makes her fit the character of Ginny so well.

Brianne Howey

The actress born in Los Angeles, California, in May 1989, is closer in age to her role in the Netflix series, where she plays Georgia, a 30-year-old mother. Unlike  Gentry, when she was little she wanted to be a flight attendant. But eventually, she studied theater at the University of New York and got her first job in television in 2010, a year before graduating, on an episode of the series 90210.

Her character, Georgia, had a rough childhood. When she found out, at the age of 15, that she was pregnant (with Ginny), she promised herself that her child would have a different life than what she did, even if that meant having to do illegal things or -spoiler alert- committing murder.

Howey has experience in this kind of role: her first significant movie role was in the 2014 movie “Horrible Bosses 2,” and she also appeared in “The Exorcist.”

Felix Mallard

He plays Marcus, Ginny’s boyfriend, in season 2; in the previous season, their relationship was more casual. The Australian model, musician, and actor, born on April 20th, 1998, in Melbourne, portrays a troubled teenager, who Ginny relates to as they both feel damaged. Although he began his acting career in an Australian soap opera, he moved to the United States in 2018, where he starred in the comedy series Happy Together, the Netflix series Locke & Key and the musical series Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

There were rumors that Mallard and Gentry were dating off screen, but in real life they are just friends.

Sara Waisglass

Sara plays Ginny’s best friend, Maxine, although by the end of the first season they had gone separate ways. Will they be able to regain their friendship in the second season? Born in Ontario on July 3rd, 1998, Waisglass started her acting career at the age of eight on a Canadian television show. When she was nine, she was part of the cast of the psychological thriller Afterwards, with John Malkovich. She was nominated for the Young Entertainer Awards 2015, as Best Recurring Young Actress 16-21, for her performance in the Canadian teen drama television series Degrassi: The Next Generation

The American actor (born July 14th, 1979) portraits Mayor Paul Randolph and Georgia’s fiancée. He’s mostly known for his leading role in the sports drama series “Friday Night Lights,” but he has also been in a few movies and on many television shows. He has also given his voice to several video games.

Raymond Ablack

This Canadian actor and comedian plays Joe, the owner of a café in town. He met Georgia when they were young- and is still madly in love with her- and has hired Ginny to work for him. Ablack, like Waisglass, was also part of the cast of the Canadian teen drama television series Degrassi: The Next Generation. As an interesting side note, one of his siblings, Rebecca, acts in Ginny & Georgia as his employee.

Nathan Mitchell

He plays Ginny’s father. In his Instagram account, the Canadian actor of Trinidadian and Jamaican descent describes himself as an actor, superhero, and astrological savant. He is best known for his role as Earving / Black Noir in the Amazon Prime Video series The Boys, based on the comic book of the same name.

The 11-year-old Australian-American actor is the sweet younger half-brother of Ginny, the son of a man who’s in prison and will appear in this second season to stir things up a bit. He started working in the entertainment industry at a very young age and has taken part in movies such as “Lambs of God,” “Sweet Tooth,” “The Secrets She Keeps,” and “Little Monsters.”
