Fans react to Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix in new “Joker: Folie à Deux” trailer

Today, Warner Bros. unveiled the highly anticipated trailer for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ which has, since, sent shockwaves through the fan community and social media.  The sequel to the critically acclaimed “Joker” film gained a plethora of opinions the past year and half when it was announced that Lady Gaga would play the iconic role of Harley Quinn. The first installment Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, which garnered Phoenix an Oscar win, was a box office hit, and earned more than 1 billion dollars. So it was no surprise that a sequel would be made to this gritty interpretation of the DC universe villain but fans were still unsure about how they would feel about the addition of Gaga to the mix. During a presentation at CinemaCon, Phillips explained the decision behind casting Lady Gaga, stating, “We cast Gaga because she’s magic.”

For a year and a half, fans engaged in spirited debates over Gaga’s suitability for the role. Many were accustomed to Margot Robbie’s rendition of the iconic character and were uncertain about embracing a new vision. However, these doubts were put to rest with the trailer’s release, which showcased Gaga’s mesmerizing transformation into the character.

The reaction from fans has been overwhelmingly positive, with social media buzzing with excitement and praise for Gaga’s portrayal and the cinematography of the trailer. With ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ Phillips appears to be redefining the boundaries of the DC cinematic universe. The decision to cast Lady Gaga who continues to re-define her artistry yet again may go down as one of the best cinematic decisions of Todd Phillips career. His vision to see Lady Gaga as his leading lady is something that many fans trust due to his previous visionary genius in the first installment. Lady Gaga has truly transcended the art of the entertainment and although we know and love her as an iconic pop queen, she has truly become a movie star.
