Eiza Gonzales will Bring Maria Felix Biopic to Life

Maria “La Doña” Felix, popularly known as the Queen of Mexican Cinema who has 47 films under her repertoire which she has made all throughout her career, will have her life be adapted into the big screen. According to Deadline, none other than the 31-year-old Mexican actress Eiza Gonzáles will portray her in the biopic, which the actress will also be co-producing with the help of Maria Felix’s estate. This is the best casting news since we heard Leslie Grace will be Batgirl!

Born in May 4, 1914 in Alamos, Sonora in the northwestern part of the country of Mexico, Maria Felix was discovered in Mexico City and made her film and acting debut in the film “El Peñon de las Animas” released in 1942. She had no formal education in acting; however, her natural talent helped her gain instant fame. Felix was widely known for her glamour and beauty, talent and acting skills, and fierceness, and great personality, which catapulted her career in the early 1940s and spanned three decades. She filmed dozens of films shot in various parts of the globe such as Mexico, Italy, Argentina, Spain, and France. She was also notable for refusing to work for Hollywood films because she believed that she will typecast for stereotypical Latina roles. Maria Felix died in 2002 at the age of 87. She had been married four times and had one child, a son who died in 1996.

According to Eiza Gonzales in a statement, she admires Maria Felix’s tenacity and fierce way of living through some of the hardest adversity she has witnessed, and Felix has continued to inspire the young actress and lot of people. Gonzáles feels honored to be playing her and to bring the late actress’ voice and story to the world. Gonzáles is known for her acting work in hit blockbuster films such as the action movies Baby Driver, and Hobbs & Shaw, and the hit Netflix thriller I Care a Lot. The actress is known for stealing the spotlight, especially from her male counterparts because of her beauty, charm, and natural acting gift, much like Maria Felix. Gonzáles believes that Felix’s life story deserves to be seen around the world because she continuously pushes boundaries through her own rules while the world constantly tried to tear her down.

The 31-year-old Mexican actress and singer will both be starring, and co-producing the biopic with Walter Rivera, who currently represents Maria Felix’s estate. According to Rivera, they have long searched for the perfect partner to adapt Felix’s story to the big screen, and that they are proud to be partnering with Eiza Gonzales on creating the film. Rivera added that Gonzáles fully embodies the strength, intelligence, passion, and character of Maria Felix. Rivera believes that with Gonzáles portraying the late actress and co-producing the film, Maria Felix’s biopic will have the power to influence change and that Felix will be portrayed in an authentic light.

Deadline reported that the team of Gonzáles and Rivera are currently searching for a Latin American to write the screenplay for Maria Felix’s life. There is no word, yet, however, if the biopic will focus both on her career and personal life. There has been no confirmed release date for the film available yet, as well.
