Catrina Makeup Tutorial with Latina Artist Claudia Candelas

Catrina Makeup Tutorial with Latina Artist Claudia Candelas

As Día de los Muertos quickly approaches, the Catrina’s makeup is a must-do to commemorate the day’s international symbolism, which dates to pre-revolutionary Mexico.

The beautiful altars, the colorful costumes, the flower crowns and the special “Catrina” symbolizes the spirit of those who have passed.

San Jose, CA based Latina makeup artist Claudia Candelas partnered with Clinique to bring you a tutorial to add to you to-dos this weekend. Let’s check out the steps!

1.             Prep skin by applying Radical Dark Spot Corrector + Interrupter

2.             Apply foundation that is 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone

3.             Set your foundation with a blotting powder

4.             Draw circles around the eye socket using a black eyeliner and a heart shape in the middle of your forehead

5.             Fill in color around the eyes using a dark chubby stick or eyeshadow

6.             Outline flower petals around the eyes using the same eyeliner

7.             Now for lips, use a bright red lipstick

8.             Using the same eyeliner, draw lines down your lips and across towards your ears to create a skeleton-like smile

9.             Add blush to your cheeks

10.          To gently remove all makeup, use Clinique’s Limited Edition Day of the Dead Take the Day Off™ Cleansing Balm
