From the comfort of tamalitos to the importance of regular video calls and messages that keep family ties strong, they reflect on how these seemingly small gestures help preserve deep emotional connections. “Ver a mis hijas comer ese plato que yo comía de chiquita es una conexión bien grande,” Yoli says, explaining how making this Lebanese dish with her daughters takes her back to her childhood, when she used to cook it with her own mom.

Yoli also reminds us the importance of calling your mom while you can, because the future is uncertain. For her, a video call or even a simple text can mean everything: “Manténganse conectadas con sus madres, porque recuerden que las tenemos hoy, pero después no sabemos.”
