Here is part of our conversation with Cely Vazquez:

LATV: After a famous relationship during the show with its ups and downs, you went through a very public breakup. How did you go through that?

Cely: I looked at it now, and all I do is giggle at myself, haha… All the breakups are taught, you know what I mean? But it was my first public one, so it was a lot of adjustment. The opinions of the public and everything like that, but we made it through! And we are stronger because of it! Haha. Now I look back, and I say to myself, “You did a good job.”

LATV: How did your values help you to confront that?

Cely: Definitely my family; they mean so much to me, and they are my best friends. Especially my older sister, who is my best friend, and they were all just there for me.

LATV: You have been single ever since (even though you “matched” with two other guys during Love Island Games. How has it been for you to date outside the show?

Cely: It has been so chill and cool and fun because I get to do everything at my own pace, within my own timing, focus on my work and my career, as well as dating, and now more than ever for being at your fingertips. It is my first time doing online dating, and it has been very, very cool because there’s no pressure; it is not like in the “villa” where you need to find someone, and you are in this bubble where you think is the end of the world! Haha… But I feel that being in the real world has been fun without the fast pace of the daily challenges of the “villa.” It’s been amusing; I’m having so much fun with it.

LATV:  Are guys intimidated by the fact that you were on a reality TV show?

Cely: Haha, it is a funny thing; it is like two sides of the same coin, some guys that are excited and want to know more, the behind the scenes and all that, and there are the others ones that are like “oh, you might be too good for me” and you know what? I might be, haha I’m kidding.

She continues…But I think I met more guys with natural curiosity than those intimidated by that. And I have fun; I answer all the questions about it, but it is always a talking point.

LATV: What are you looking for in a guy now?

Cely: Loyalty is the first one, and just someone to share my life with, like the little moments. Somebody who would be happy spending time with my family because I’m with my family a lot. Also, having someone who appreciates my culture, actually someone within my culture, is very important to me right now.

That’s why it’s been so cool dating on Chispa: you know somebody will understand your culture and identity.

LATV: Why is it important to you to find someone who shares the same values as you?

Cely: Growing up Latina, it’s just such a loaded and beautiful thing. I want somebody who understands that I have a big family. I can’t have someone who doesn’t understand me fundamentally, you know? Also, I like going to church every Sunday with my mom; that’s how I was raised. So it’s so cool to have someone with that background already, too, because then it’s just like it meshes perfectly.

LATV: Why did you decide to join Chispa?

Cely: It goes back to someone understanding my culture and identity. It makes the conversations much more exciting and fun. And it’s been so cool because not only have I met people I’m interested in, like “relationship vibes,” but I’ve also met some really cool people I get to chat with who understand when I say that I love Peso Pluma. I love Becky G., and I love Karol G. It’s just cool because they know.

LATV: What advice would you give someone just starting online dating?

Cely: Just be yourself 100%. For example, it’s been fun creating my Chispa profile. I love the little “Cafecito lover” sticker, the “fluid in Spanglish” one. It’s been fun to fully show who I am and see other people’s profiles. It’s important to keep it authentic to who you are outside of the app because that will match you with someone who is your perfect person.

LATV: Can you give our readers tips on dating safely online?

Cely: Yes. Do not meet up with people without telling your family where you will be. If you’re going on a date, shoot your mom a quick text, like, “Hey, going on a date with this person.” Share that with your friends as well for safety, and because sending a photo of a cute guy you matched with to your friend is always nice.

But always make sure to let your family know, let your friends know where you’re meeting up with people and what time, and give them updates, again, to spill the tea, but also for safety reasons.

LATV: Do you see yourself doing more reality shows in the future?

Cely: Um, you know, I’m just like a “never say never girl,” you know. I never want to cut something out entirely and make that decision cause you never know what’s going to happen in the future or what opportunities could come up, so if it’s the right fit, who knows…
