Who runs the world? These music superstars are also savvy business women

Women ruled the music business last year and we’re about to show you how it went down. What do the women in this list have in common? They’re dominating beyond the mic.

Latinas Shakira and Karol G are setting the stage on fire with their chart-topping hits, and they are not the only ones. Taylor Swift and Beyoncé also continue to dominate the global scene. These powerhouses are proving that they’re not just artists; they’re savvy businesswomen making waves in various industries.

Karol G

Karol G, the Colombian reggaeton sensation, has seen her net worth skyrocket from a modest $8 million in 2021 to an impressive $25 million in 2023, tripling her fortune and proving that her hard work and talent are paying off.

Music remains Karol G’s main cash flow, with her “Bichota Tour” and “Strip Love Tour” grossing a whopping $69.9 million in 33 shows during 2022. But it doesn’t end there – Karol G’s businesses are as diverse and dynamic as her music.

From fashion collaborations with brands like Loewe and Kappa to exclusive agreements with companies like “Súper deAlimentas” for a limited edition chewing gum, Karol G is making her mark outside the studio. The queen of collaborations even teamed up with Crocs, launching two stylish versions of the iconic footwear that fans happily snatched up.

Closing the year with a bang, Karol G smashed records with over 4.7 billion global views and secured her position as the first Latin American female artist to top the Billboard 200 with an all-Spanish album.

Apart from her record-breaking music career, Shakira has explored various other business ventures, showcasing her commitment to eco-friendly initiatives and child development. From co-owning a cocoa snack brand, Skinny Dipped, to entering the lingerie and underwear market with Parade Underwear, Shakira’s commercial initiatives are as diverse as she is.

She also has a fragrance line, with perfumes such as Dance Midnight, and collaborations with Fisher-Price for child development products. Her real estate includes a Miami mansion and an island in the Bahamas.

Shakira’s 2023 was marked by chart-topping hits like “Acróstico,” a charming song dedicated to her children, and her world-stopping collaboration with Bizarrap on “BZRP Music Sessions #53.” Awards poured in, including multiple Latin Grammy wins and being named Woman of the Year at the Billboard Latina Women Awards, just to name a few.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is not just a music sensation; she’s a global brand with a net worth of $450 million. Teamed up with husband Jay-Z, the power couple’s combined net worth reaches a staggering $1.8 billion.

Beyoncé’s diverse revenue streams include tours like the On the Run series, celebrity endorsements for Pepsi and L’Oreal, and ownership of the clothing line Ivy Park. Her company, Parkwood Entertainment, has produced movies like “Cadillac Records” and “Obsessed.”

In 2015, Jay-Z’s acquisition of the music streaming service Tidal further added to their financial empire. Her main income, however, came from her 2023 Renaissance Tour, which also had a movie made about it at the end of the year. Queen things only!

Taylor Swift

Speaking of queens, we had to end things with her royal pop highness herself, Taylor Swift, who reached billionaire status in 2023 just due to her music alone- no brands, no side hustles, only pure talent.

Swift’s Eras Tour, grossing over $1.3 billion, set records as the highest-grossing tour in history. Unlike many in the industry, Swift’s wealth comes from music royalties, touring, and the increasing value of her music catalog. With an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion, Taylor Swift remains a trailblazer in the music business.

Just like Beyoncé, Tay turned her tour into a movie. The Eras Tour concert film became the highest-grossing concert film in North America, bringing in an estimated $95 million to $97 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada, according to Axios.

And it doesn’t end there. She became the most-listened-to artist on Spotify in the entire world during 2023, knocking Bad Bunny off the coveted spot. For the first time in a decade, there is a woman at the top, with about a whopping 26.1 billion streams.
