Funding the winter transfer push

Bringing the Barcelona defender to Germany depends heavily on Bayern successfully executing a major departure from their current roster. South Korean defender Kim Min-jae has been given permission to explore options elsewhere ahead of the midseason window. Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have signaled interest, alongside preliminary inquiries from AC Milan. Offloading Kim for a fee around 40 million euros would free up roughly eight million euros in annual wages, providing Bayern with the necessary financial leverage to launch an official bid for Koundé.

Koundé’s evolving role under Hansi Flick

While Koundé extended his contract with Barcelona through 2030, his status within the team has experienced a noticeable shift early in the campaign.
