American Gods Has A Fresh Face (and Fierce Force) In Ashley Reyes

I’m in love. Okay, love is strong word. And truth be told I fall in love easy. So let’s dial it down to extreme infatuation with the latest interviewee on our “award-winning” Checkitow Podcast. She is the breakout star of the acclaimed Starz series, “American Gods,” now in its 3rd season – Ashley Reyes plays Cordelia, a street smart driver and hacker who aides the God Of War, Mr. Wednesday (portrayed by Ian McShane). While her character is helping him with “tech stuff,” she begins to realize she’s caught up in a divine battle for the soul of the world.

Ashley does a wonderful, splendid, and dare-I-say spectacular job in her role. I know those sound like generic compliments, but the thing is, I’ve been sort of at a loss for words since I interviewed her. During our chat I was like a deer caught in headlights. This actress should be the next Vice President of our country, or maybe the leader of a new religion.

A little prologue on Ashley…she is part Puerto Rican, part Lithuanian, all-amazing. She owns her multi-culti, ethnic ambiguity, and the fact she speaks five languages (if knowing, like, two words from a language counts as knowing it). She loves her mom, has a protective dog, and has not given up on New York City, where she is from. She is pleasant, unpretentious, and nice to strangers so long as they do not leer at her or invade her space…or set off her dog.

Also, she totally took it well that I tricked her in the beginning the interview by blabbering in Spanish after I had promised her PR lady I would keep it to English because she wasn’t as fluent as she’d like to be. Anyway, it was a moment. I think I should have held it for a few seconds longer, but she was taken by surprise.

It’s one of my favorite interviews of all time, and she’s one of my new favorite people. Peep the full new episode of The Checkitow Podcast featuring Ashley Reyes below:
