These Afro-Latina Celebrities Are Making the World a Kinder Place for Animals

February is Black History Month, and PETA Latino is honoring Afro-Latinx celebrities who are advocating for animals and motivating their audiences to save our little fur friends by promoting a vegan diet.

“Considering that each vegan saves almost 200 animals each year, these celebrities and influencers have a huge impact in favor of animals by encouraging their millions of followers to give up meat, eggs and dairy,” says Alicia Aguayo, senior director of PETA Latino. “This Black History Month and throughout the year, PETA Latino celebrates the efforts of Afro-Latinos working to create a more caring world.”

Known for her unforgettable roles in telenovelas, Puerto Rican actress Jeimy Osorio says: “Choosing non-violence in my diet has been fundamental for my physical and mental health.”

Award-winning actress and producer Rosario Dawson credits vegan foods for improving her mood, explaining, “I rest better, I feel better, with less inflammation and more flexibility.”

And the founder of Woke Foods, Ysanet Batista, who learned to love cooking by watching her grandmother cook, also confesses that giving up meat has benefited her mind and body.

By sharing their social media platforms, the influencers and celebrities on PETA Latino’s list are setting an example for thousands to follow. Teen vegan activist, Genesis Butler, has followed in the footsteps of her vegetarian great-granduncle, Cesar Chavez, to speak out against exploitation and injustice, giving a much-viewed TEDx talk at just 10 years old, where she slammed industries meat and dairy for contributing to the climate catastrophe. While influencer Sabrina Sith grew up the only meatless eater in her household, she is now helping others go vegan with the delicious recipes in her Hangry Vegan e-cookbook.

Celebrities and influencers on PETA Latino’s list rely on vegan foods to continue their mission.

PETA Latino’s motto says in part that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any way.” For more information, please visit PETALatino.com or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
