Xolo Mariduena as ‘Blue Beetle’: Watch the Trailer!

Our beloved Cobra Kai‘s Xolo Maridueña stars in the DC superhero film “Blue Beetle,” marking the DC Super Hero’s first time on the big screen — and with massive Latin talent in front of and behind the camera. The film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, stars Xolo Maridueña in the title role as well as his alter ego, Jaime Reyes.

The trailer, which looks amazing, introduces us to Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate who gains superpower armor after a peculiar encounter with an alien scarab who chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host making him BLUE BEETLE and must come to terms with his newfound abilities while uncovering the reason the scarab was sent to Earth. In the comics, the character lives in El Paso, Texas, but in the movie, he will inhabit Palmera City, a location created for the project.

Starring alongside Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”) are Adriana Barraza (“Rambo: Last Blood,” “Thor”) as Jaime’s grandmother, Nana, Damían Alcázar (“Narcos,” “Narcos: Mexico”) as his father, Elpidia Carrillo (“Mayans M.C.,” the “Predator” films) as his mother, Bruna Marquezine (“Maldivas,” “God Save the King”) as Jenny Kord, Raoul Max Trujillo (the “Sicario” films, “Mayans M.C.”) as Carapax, with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Monarch,” “Dead Man Walking”) as Victoria Kord, and George Lopez (the “Rio and “Smurf” franchises) as Jaime’s Uncle Rudy. The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories,” “Hocus Pocus 2”) as Jaime’s sister, Milagro, and Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows”) as Dr. Sanchez.

As I said, plenty of Latin talent shines in this movie. We’re beyond excited to check it out! Blue Beetle is out in theaters on August 18th.
