World Aids Day: Recognizing HIV Today

Since 1988, December 1st has been designated as World Aids Day in order to raise awareness and honor those who have been affected by the disease.
The Q Agenda was joined by Edwin Millan of the Aids Healthcare Foundation and LOUD to discuss the ongoing effort to prevent AIDS/HIV, the history of the disease, and the ongoing stigmas that affect the LGBTQ+ community.
The topic of AIDS and AIDS prevention is as important as ever. AIDS is not limited to one group or subculture, and can affect anyone regardless of background. Although there are many treatment options available, like PrEP, there are still political hurdles that restrict access to this healthcare. This year in Texas, a judge ruled that businesses will not be required to cover HIV-preventative medication claiming it infringes on Christian religious freedom. These rulings show the need for continued outreach and education in order to change stigmas surrounding AIDS and HIV.
LOUD or the Latino Outreach Understanding Division is an organization powered by the Aids Healthcare Foundation whose marketing efforts empower Latino/Latine communities to lead healthier lives.
