How Kunno Became a TikTok Star and a Voice for Latino LGBTQ+ Youth

With over 33 million followers on TikTok and more than 6 million on Instagram, Kunno is now one of the most influential figures in the Latin American digital world. This content creator, actor, and singer hailing from Monterrey, Nuevo León, is not only known for his bold style and stage presence but also for being a visible voice within the LGBTQ+ community.

Born on May 8, 2000, as Guillermo Kunno, the young influencer adopted his stage name as a tribute to actor Kuno Becker. His rise to fame was meteoric: in 2020, his ‘Kunno Walk’ video, set to the beat of ‘4K’ by El Alfa and Noriel, went viral and launched him into digital stardom. Before long, his irreverent style and authenticity made him an internet pop icon.

During his recent visit to LatiNation for our show The Q Agenda, Kunno openly shared what his role as a visible figure means to younger generations and the families around them:

“Little kids and people tell me ‘I admire you, I love you, you make me so happy’. But I feel it’s more important when the moms or the grandmas or even dads are the ones who approach me and tell me thank you because I didn’t know what to expect from my child but then I saw you on TikTok and I see your nails, I see your makeup, I see your life experience and I can really understand that my child is going to take those steps and I’m going to support him.”

This kind of recognition has been a fundamental part of the impact Kunno has achieved, not only as an entertainer but also as an agent of cultural change. However, his journey hasn’t been free from criticism. From social media controversies to cyberbullying, Kunno has had to learn how to turn adversity into strength:

“You really have to pay attention to people’s comments because they are the best way for you to learn about yourself. Against, of course, cyberbullying, of hate, that’s the worst that could ever happen. But I really took it from my own perspective. Also, I told myself I need to take all this negativity and turn it into my power. All this cyberbullying I’m getting, all this hate I’m getting, I need to make it my strength.”

Over the years, Kunno has expanded his career beyond TikTok. He has acted in productions like “Como dice el dicho” and “Ellas soy yo: Gloria Trevi”; appeared in the music video for Karol G’s “Bichota” and has walked the runway at events such as New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. He has also ventured into music with singles like “Tal vez no,” “Crush,” and “Qué perra soy,” and is close friends with Ángela Aguilar and her husband, Christian Nodal, often featuring them on social media.

Today, at 25, Kunno is solidifying his status as a figure who transcends platforms. His message is clear: authenticity, resilience, and pride. He’s a prime example of how the internet can provide visibility and a voice to those who once didn’t have one, inspiring new generations to live without fear and with freedom.
