Adriana Yamila Díaz González, born on October 31, 2000, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, is regarded as the most prominent figure in table tennis in the Caribbean and one of the most important in Latin America. At 23 years old, her resume is impressive: world junior champion, multi-medalist at the Pan American and Central American Games, and a two-time Olympian.
Her breakthrough on the international stage was meteoric. In 2016, at just 15, she made history by becoming the first Puerto Rican to qualify for the Olympic Games in table tennis. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she advanced past the preliminary round and captured the hearts of the public with her courage and talent. She repeated the feat in Tokyo 2020, solidifying her place among the elite in sports.

At the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, Díaz achieved another milestone: she won the gold medal, becoming the first Puerto Rican to do so in that discipline. Furthermore, she has been a champion multiple times at the Central American and Caribbean Games, elevating the profile of table tennis in Puerto Rico and proving that it’s possible to compete with Asian powerhouses from a small yet determined island.
Her talent also led her to the professional international circuit. In 2018, she made her debut with the Dabang Smashers in India’s Ultimate Table Tennis league, where she scored significant victories, such as against the European champion Bernadette Szőcs. In doubles, alongside her sister Melanie Díaz, she has secured a top spot in the world rankings, reaching the No. 5 position in the women’s doubles category in 2022 according to the ITTF.

Adriana is currently ranked No. 18 in the WTT (World Table Tennis) world rankings, among more than 860 players worldwide.
