Wakanda Forever managed to make a sizable box office opening this weekend. The Marvel film opened with an estimated $180 million in North America, according to the film’s studio, Disney. The film features the participation of Mexican actors Tenoch Huerta and Mabel Cadena, as well as the Mexican-Kenyan Lupita Nyong’o.

Actress Mabel Cadena joins the list of Mexicans who are part of the Marvel Universe, and in the film she brings to life the character of Namora, a mutant with superhuman abilities, such as breathing underwater and swimming at high speeds. A native of Mexico City, Cadena debuted in the Hollywood industry and in superhero movies.

All eyes will be on Tenoch Huerta as the film has found a worthy representative of the culture with the character of Namor. Representation was the objective of this character and it is exactly what they got. The award-winning actor has found world stardom in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, under the direction of Ryan Coogler.

Lupita Nyong’o, who is part of the cast, went back to Mexico, the place she was born, to present the film  this past weekend. The Oscar winner for “Twelve Years a Slave” is not only making headlines for the new film, she’s also giving fans something to talk about for her true origins. As much as she was born in Mexico, she said in a recent interview she does not consider herself Mexican, but loves and embodies the culture.
