Come Visit Compton’s First Annual Afro-Latino Culture Fest!

Compton is going to celebrate the vibrancy of Afro-Latino heritage at the landmark Douglas F. Dollarhide Community Center!

Dive deep into a cultural extravaganza as Compton hosts its much-anticipated Afro-Latino Culture Fest this September. Presented by the Non-Profit Organization, Afro-Latino Education and Arts Collective, Inc., this fest is set to become a touchstone of celebration, understanding, and pride for the Afro-Latino community.

Set to take place on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, the Douglas F. Dollarhide Community Center at 301 N Tamarind Ave will transform into a pulsating hub of art, music, dance, and more from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. From riveting dance performances and melodious tunes that trace their roots back to the African influences in Latin America and the Caribbean, to delicious culinary delights and interactive workshops, there’s something for everyone!

“This fest is not just a celebration but an assertion of our cultural heritage,” states Shay Cruz, Director from Afro-Latino Education and Arts Collective, Inc. “It’s a day to immerse oneself in the rich tapestry of Afro-Latino culture, showcasing the resilience, creativity, and brilliance of our community.”

Performances will include Ocenandeniye Dance Company (Afro-Cuban dance and drumming lead by Laroye Aña), TaDeo Asojano (Afro-Dominican dance), The Afro-Peruvian Experience (Afro-Peruvian dance and drumming lead by Nadia Calmet), Tostones (Afro-Puerto Rican bomba dance and drumming), Dunuba (West African dance and drumming group) and Clave Dura (salsa music). There will also be workshops, such as Contemporary Latin Dance classes led by Ariela Conde.

Hosted by an exceptional lineup of talent representing the Afro-Latino community, the festival promises to be a memorable experience for all attendees. Food, dance, panels, activities for children, and much more!

Meet the Hosts and Co-Hosts

Gadiel De Orbe – An Afro-Latino of Dominican descent, Gadiel De Orbe is an award-nominated actor, comedian, entrepreneur, and military veteran from New York, NY. With a background in the United States Navy and stand-up comedy, Gadiel has garnered hundreds of millions of views on social media platforms. He recently appeared in the film “PEAK SEASON.”

Pedro Rivera – Proudly representing both Puerto Rican and Dominican heritage, Pedro anchors the KTLA 5 news in Los Angeles. He has covered major events like the Rams Super Bowl parade and the Los Angeles Marathon.

Isadora Ortega – An Afro-Latina of Dominican/Venezuelan descent, Isadora is making waves in the entertainment industry as an award-winning actress, producer, and writer. Her graphic novel, “The Curse of the Flower,” has been praised by fans and adapted into a short film.

Terrance Delane – With heritages of both African American and Mexican descent, Terrance is a talented stand-up comedian, host, and actor with aspirations for exciting TV and movie roles.

Jose Oyola – A proud Afro-Latino from San Juan, Puerto Rico, currently residing in Los Angeles, Jose is an actor, comedian, and writer known for his roles in various films.

The Afro-Latino Education and Arts Collective, Inc. (ALEAC) is a pioneering non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving Afro-Latino culture.
